Steamer Yarra Yarra

Post by RAFAU58 » Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:11 pm

I am hoping someone may assist to determine if Thomas Eaves was a crew member of the maiden voyage of the steamer 'Yarra Yarra', official No. 32296, launched 04-09-1851. It was built by William Denny &Bros., Dumbarton (yard 31). It sailed from Glasgow to Sydney 13-11-1851 arriving 05-04-1852.

Tried web site Crew List Index Project(CLIP or crew and while ship is entered no record of crew list. Referred us to Canadian site Maritime History Archive. (Newfoundland University took large number of British Crew Lists) but coming up "no agreement for 32296"
Don't know how else to help you Good luck. Sorry Colin Campbell

Official numbers were not allocated until late 1854/early 1855 so your ship must have been given this number after that date. However, you should be able to find the information you want at the UK National Archives. Surviving logs and crew agreements are held under the port of registry in the BT series each year. To locate a search start-point, go here: Select 'Advanced Search' and then enter the port of registry and the port name, BT in the series to search, and the year 1851. You should be able to find the reference number of the agreement you want. It won't be available to read online so it means a personal visit or have someone view the document on your behalf. National Archives staff will do this for a fee.
